My name is Maryam K Hassan. I am a student at Columbia University majoring in Middle Eastern Studies and concentrating in Anthropology. I am a photographer for the Columbia Athletic Department and Columbia Photographers Association as well as a long and triple jumper on the track team. I formerly worked for the Columbia Daily Spectator.
I believe photography is a modern form of painting, used to capture the essence of a single moment in fine detail. Time is passing by faster than the close of the shutter, but I'm trying to pause those moments in order to relive the fleeting memories. The concept of memory itself is biased. Photography acts as concrete evidence to a story line, even if the rest is altered by memories good and bad. It brings the viewer back to that moment, back to the instant that the photo was taken, and presses play.
I invite you to continue looking through my work both here and on Flickr. Feel free to contact me for your photography needs below.
